Macht is an arch-demon who failed a thousand years ago at trying to live alongside humans and has been fixated on understanding them ever since. His magic turns whatever he touches to gold, and it is revealed that in trying to enrich the town out of goodwill he transformed its entire population into golden statues. Lernen, who belongs to the lineage of the great mage that once sealed Macht, has spent his whole life on nothing but killing this demon.
